PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Marine-grade mass timber engineered for coastal and marine environments.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

MARINE-GRADE MASS TIMBER

Engineered for the realities
of coastal and marine environments.

ABTEC TideWood™ is an evolutionary extension of the ABTEC mass-timber platform with a potentially revolutionary objective: bring the warmth, strength and precision of engineered wood to demanding waterfront applications—including marine-grade decks, marina walkways and buildings on the water.

EXPLORE THE DEVELOPMENT VISION

An evolutionary platform. A revolutionary direction.

Not conventional timber placed beside the water—a complete mass-timber system engineered around the conditions that waterfront construction must face.

Salt air. Persistent humidity. Wind-driven rain. Wet–dry cycling. Abrasion. Corrosive connections. Details that must drain, dry and remain inspectable. These are not secondary considerations—they define the product-development program.

TideWood™ evolves technologies and capabilities ABTEC is already building into a new marine-focused platform. Its ambition is revolutionary: expand where mass timber can be considered while preserving the discipline that demanding environments require—coordinated design, factory-controlled manufacturing, protective technology, exposure-specific detailing and evidence-based qualification before the system reaches a project.

Conceptual wood walkway at a marina

Marine-grade decking.
Built as a system.

Marina decks and walkways are among the most demanding horizontal wood applications. TideWood™ is being developed to address the entire assembly—not simply the board.

  • Durable walking and wear surfaces
  • Drainage and accelerated drying
  • Slip and surface-performance testing
  • Dimensional stability through moisture cycling
  • Corrosion-resistant fasteners and connections
  • Maintainable, inspectable and replaceable details

Performance targets remain subject to research, testing, engineering, qualification and applicable approvals.

Protection is more than a coating.

TideWood™ is intended to combine material, protection, connection, detailing, manufacturing and verification into one exposure-specific system.

01

TimberShield™ integration

Protective technology incorporated where specified and validated for the intended assembly.

02

Exposure-specific engineering

Material selection, layups, adhesives, coatings and sealants matched to defined service conditions.

03

Moisture management

Drainage, drying, protected end grain, replaceable wear surfaces and details that avoid trapped water.

04

Marine connection strategy

Corrosion-resistant fasteners, connectors and interfaces selected as a coordinated system.

05

Factory-controlled quality

Digital coordination, repeatable manufacturing and documented quality control before shipment.

06

Testing before claims

Bond, delamination, structural, fire, fastener, corrosion, durability, slip and environmental testing.

Claims will follow evidence.

From marina walkways to waterfront living.

The TideWood™ platform is being developed for a range of coastal and marine-adjacent opportunities. The images below illustrate the vision; they do not represent completed TideWood™ projects or approved end uses.

Conceptual future application: Marine-grade decks & marina walkways
DEVELOPMENT TARGET 01

Marine-grade decks & marina walkways

A future decking system developed around horizontal marine exposure—including wet–dry cycling, drainage, surface wear, slip resistance, dimensional stability and corrosion-resistant fastening.

Conceptual future application: Marinas, clubs & waterfront hospitality
DEVELOPMENT TARGET 02

Marinas, clubs & waterfront hospitality

Mass-timber structures for upscale marina clubhouses, restaurants, pavilions and shared waterfront amenities where warmth, speed of assembly and a strong sense of place matter.

Conceptual future application: Commercial properties on the water
DEVELOPMENT TARGET 03

Commercial properties on the water

A coordinated platform for premium restaurants, marina retail, boutique offices and mixed-use waterfront destinations—subject to exposure-specific detailing, engineering and approval.

Conceptual future application: High-end waterfront homes
DEVELOPMENT TARGET 04

High-end waterfront homes

Conventional luxury residences enriched with natural-wood decks, waterfront walkways and private docks—bringing TideWood™ development priorities into direct relationship with the water.

Conceptual future application: TideWood™ mass-timber components
DEVELOPMENT TARGET 05

TideWood™ mass-timber components

A future family of factory-produced CLT panels and components identified directly on the timber edge with a restrained, single-color TideWood™ by ABTEC stencil—not a colored applied label.
